Helen Cocks

About

Helen Cocks - Soprano

Helen is a first study singer on the BMus(Hons) degree course at Goldsmiths College, University of London. She began her training aged nine, and while with Peter Franklin at the Thomas Hardye School, achieved a Franklin student's highest ever mark in ABRSM Grade VIII. Helen has experience as an oratorio soloist (Schubert's Mass in G, Faure's Messe Basse, Requiems by Faure & Brahms) and in recital singing, taking first prize in the arranged folk song class at the 2002 Bournemouth Festival. She now studies with the Scottish operatic soprano Nan Christie, and regularly performs chamber music with the Raymont Trio. Helen has a wide repertoire to suit a variety of occasions, including : church services (weddings, funerals, christenings), receptions, corporate events and parties. She will consult with clients and design a programme for them, incorporating their ideas. She does, however, stress that she is a classical soprano, and is not trained to sing in a jazz or pop idiom. Helen is happy to sing with an accompanist of the client's choice, or can provide her own experienced pianist, Matthew Winkworth.

Matthew Winkworth - [pianist if required]

Matthew is also on the BMus(Hons) course at Goldsmiths, where he studies
classical piano with Andrew Zolinsky. He is often asked to accompany
performance exams within the college and for classes at Abingdon Cello
School. He also works with choirs, in chamber music and as a musical
director in amateur shows. He has been accompanying Helen since 2003.
